Hi guys,

the guys at ShortApps have made an Android app using tracks from the site. You can download and play any track from the site directly from your Android device. It is called JamDroid and you can find it here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droid.jam.app

Check it out and please report any bugs to the developer.

General Discussion / New version of the forum!
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:11:08 am »
Hi guys,

you might notice the new looks of the forum. This is due to an update of the forum software. I have done this to be able to use the new forum features to integrate a members system on the entire site. Some of the features that have been suggested lately will be implemented, such as favorites and history of played tracks.

Please let me know if you experience any forum issues or if some layout issues should be changed.

General Discussion / Better, faster web server software
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:10:57 pm »
Hi guys,

I have been getting reports of downloads being cut off and some issues with track length, so I have taken some steps to remedy this. I hope it will run smoother now, but who knows. If you experience any issues with downloads being cut off or the tracks appearing smaller than they should, please report it!

For the tech savvy folks: What I have done is exchange Apache for lighttpd for serving the static MP3 files (the backing tracks) on the file serving server. Since this is a lighter web server software the downloads should be more stable and faster.

General Discussion / Terrorist attacks in Norway
« on: July 26, 2011, 11:36:07 pm »
Hi all,

I guess you have all heard of the bombing in Oslo and the shooting at Ut°ya in Norway by now. I live 500m from the bomb site, but was not at home when the attacks hit. My family and I are OK, but my thoughts go out to all those who are affected by this tragedy.

I just thought I'd let you know that we are OK and provide a reason for the lack of updates on the site.

General Discussion / New: RSS feeds with daily updates
« on: March 06, 2011, 02:20:02 am »
Hi guys,

after numerous requests I have implemented a RSS feed that provides links for all the new tracks being added. This should make it easier to be updated on the latest additions to the site. It will be updated daily if there are any new tracks, and you can subscribe here:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/GuitarbackingtrackRSS

Hope you'll use it and please let me know if you see any mistakes.

Gear Discussion / My stash
« on: March 05, 2011, 11:41:21 pm »
Hey guys,

just to get this section of the forum going I'd like to share my setup with you all. It is not especially impressive, but it works for me.

I have a PRS SE Santana electric (black and beautiful), a Cort acoustic and an old classical guitar. I had an old Fender Strat as well, but it got stolen :(. For effects I use a Pod XT plugged into a Trace Elliot 150W amp or a great Goldring headset (for when the neighbours are cranky).

General Discussion / Brand new submit form
« on: December 12, 2010, 12:43:02 am »
Hi all,

I have made a submit form to ease the submission of backing track to the site. You can find it here:
http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/submit.php

It should make it easier to upload your tracks to the site since you won't have to use the forum. It will also make the job easier for me when adding the tracks. Please try it out for your next submission and let me know how it works. PS: It is in BETA now and only MP3 files are allowed for now.

Thanks,

General Discussion / New onsite flash player in BETA
« on: August 31, 2010, 10:06:22 pm »
Hi guys,

I have been working on a new onsite player with some enhanced functionality. I have uploaded a beta version that you can try here:
http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/play2/seger,_bob/sunspot_baby.htm
(To test with other tracks just replace the play with play2 in the URL when you have browsed to the track you'd like)

The biggest difference is the A-B loop functionality. When playing a track, click the A-B button once to set the "A marker" and once more to set the "B marker". The track will then loop between these "markers" until you click stop or somewhere on the bar. It also has a volume control now.

You might also notice a slight increase in load time. This is because the current player utilizes lower quality flash files (.swf) instead of MP3 for the sound. The new player use the .mp3 files directly. This has the bonus that if you have played a track on the onsite player you can just click "Download this track as MP3!" and it will download instantly (which saves you time and me bandwidth).

So, please check out the new player and let me know what you think. Any feedback and suggestions welcome!

General Discussion / Ogregod.com, iBassTabs.com and GuitarTabz.net
« on: March 15, 2010, 03:58:55 pm »
Hi all,

for those of you redirected from Ogregod.com, iBassTabs.com or GuitarTabz.net, please let me explain what has happened before you torch my mailbox:

Ogregod.com, iBassTabs and GuitarTabz.net were my sites and I spent a helluva lot of hours working on them, providing free tabs for you all. However, a couple of years ago I was contacted by the MPA threatening legal action if I did not remove the tabs from GuitarTabz.net. The same happened to tons of other tab sites at the time. I complied and removed the tabs from the site, followed by a shitstorm of e-mail abuse from the users. Now the same has happened with Ogregod.com and iBassTabs.com and I have decided to redirect them to this site because I feel that the same users would be interested in this site as well. Free guitar backing tracks must be better than no free tabs.

I am truly sorry for the abrupt closure of the sites, but since I had to remove the tabs I had no reason to keep them up. People would just get more angry at that.

For more info on the legal issues of tabs, see the Legal Issues section here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tablature

For future tab needs please check out ultimate-guitar.com.

And do check out this site as well. It provides guitar backing tracks for you to play along to for free download.

General Discussion / Custom backing tracks
« on: February 20, 2010, 04:28:48 pm »
Hi,

quite a few of you have sent e-mails requesting backing tracks for other instruments than guitar or want tracks with/without vocals/drums or different combinations of instruments. Now that's possible!

Karaoke-version has launched a "Custom backing tracks" section of their webiste where you can choose which instruments the backing tracks should contain. As an example, you can create a guitar backing track of Stairway to Heaven by adding drums, bass, some flute, perhaps rhythm guitar and vocals. Check out a sample here:
Stairway to Heaven @ Karaoke-version

After you have customized it to your liking you can save as MP3. If you'd like another version later you can recustomize it. The tracks are cheap and has great quality! Currently there are over 2000 custom tracks!
