Title: Ultimate Guitar has purchased GuitarBackingTrack.com
Post by: zappp on September 14, 2016, 04:30:37 pm
Hi GBT.com Community
By now you all know that Ultimate Guitar has recently purchased GBT.com, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to you and welcome you all to the Ultimate Guitar Community.

I started Ultimate Guitar 17 years ago with one simple goal - to help guitarists connect with each other and to learn their favorite songs. Now we reach tens of millions of guitarists every month have created a number of tools and services to help guitarists learn songs faster and better.

While we have millions of guitar tabs and chords for pretty much every song you would want to learn, one thing we haven't been able to provide our community was a catalog of recordings that our users could play around with and use to learn how to play their favorite songs. Today this changes.
The GBT community has created an amazing catalog of high-quality backing tracks, and we can't wait to find ways to expose the Ultimate Guitar community the awesome work that you have all done.

I would like to thank Oddgeir for all that he has done over the past 10 years. His vision and tireless effort to keep the site running made it everything it is today, and I will do everything I can to build upon his legacy.
I would love to hear from you guys, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly with any suggestions or comments you have.

Rock on,
Eugeny Naidenov

Hi everyone,

I'm still around  :)

Thank you, Eugeny, for the kind words! I am very much looking forward to seeing what you guys can do with the site. I always felt limited by having to handle everything on my own, so having a great team from Ultimate Guitar handling things from now on feels very good. It feels appropriate considering the countless hours users have spent creating tracks for us all to enjoy.

A big thank you goes out to everyone that has submitted tracks, sent me encouraging e-mails and contributed in some way or another over the years!

Please feel free to contact me via PM, I won't disappear completely.

Happy jamming, guys!

Signing off as webmaster,
Oddgeir

Thanks to you; that site gave me some good tracks, and provided me a good place to make my own security case of tracks  ;), and, if someone has enjoyed them, ever better.

How do you record your backing tracks?
They are really high quality!
Reaper+ezdrummer+boss gt8 and some free plug-ins for the keyboard sounds.
Bass is a cheap samick one into a cheap korg multifx
I don't earn any $$$ with that, so, I don't expend much $$.

The secret is patience wile many hours of work, and do the thing in the way you would like finding it, not accepting a meh backing track.
Even so, some errors can be in some tracks.

Thanks for your nice opinions.

Some thoughts from someone who just discovered this site.  Kudos to the creator and contributors of this site; it looks like an amazing collaborative project.  It's people-sourced resources like this that make me love the internet.  Congratulations to all on the purchase.  My wish, to the new webmaster, is keys for the tracks.  Without them, as a beginner, I don't want to use the tracks because I don't want to guess wrong and train myself to play in the wrong key.  I'd also love to be able to search tracks by genre.  Best wishes, and reading the article on UG, it's great to know that this site can still continue.

Edit: One more observation.  I just got stopped by the captcha required to post here, because I missed the domain question.  Perhaps this site, because of all of the content held in it, is a target for schemers, but I'm used to the captchas going away after logging into a site, making it easier to navigate.

Is there a link to GBT from UG home page? Do I have to go through "What's New", each time?

Don't you use your ears when playing guitar? It's music, not a computer game.

Nice to read about the merger. I'd been using this site for a long while now, and it's great that its legacy will continue.

More power UG and GBT

I remember some projects that were supported by crowd in order to help and make functional. These project were then free for everyone. Later, project owner suddenly decided to make money by using polished products and volunteers and support crew got big zero.  Become a member to get contents access is OK, but selling contents that  community made freely isn't honest IMHO. I hope that eventually synthesis of UG & GBT will not make same result.

I've really enjoyed jamming with a lot of the tracks. I'm kind of an old timer and a little late to the game when it comes to the process of thinking digitally. I've been playing and singing R&R since 1967 playing in 'ner do well bands etc. Keeping a band together at my age [58] is hard because my buddies have all become so jaded and we are all busy etc. Many reasons. But I like to keep my chops up and will never stop trying to improve. I am amazed when I plug my HP laptop into my PA and jam with some of these tracks. I am free to play without having to lead anything or try to steer a piece of music. I only have to worry about me.
One thing that bothers me is that SO MANY of the best tracks have vocals on them. As a singer and player, this ruins them for me. I wish the creators of the tracks would always make both with and without vocals of the same track so all could be happy. Sometimes that is the case, but usually not. The lips make me go right on by. It would be really cool if I could just get the bass and drums on a track. That's the way I've always played anyway. I realize that many want rythm guitar or keys etc but wouldn't it be cool if they could be added or deleted from the track? Would be for me. And it would be great to have more classic rock bass and drum and slight rythm tracks or a way to request them. Perhaps there is a way that I don't know. What I don't know could fill volumes. I try to learn every day though, and I do get better at this, slowly. I have no one to teach me simple computer stuff that 6 year olds already know. A lot goes over my head.
For instance, I love ZZ Top. One would think there would be an accurate "La Grange" track with no vocal and only slight rythm guitar so that someone like myself could replicate the parts Billy plays in the song. No such luck. I would love to have bass& drums backing tracks to "Balinese" and "Francine". So many more from my heyday that we used to absolutely smoke playing 3 piece.
I do love this site though and with more effort from me and the efforts of the great members and creators and UG, when the world cries out for me to make my "comeback", I'll be more than ready! Thanks.

Has anyone else noticed that within the band name say "Pink Floyd" all the songs are suddenly unsorted.  Anyone else notice this?
I tried clicking all over to no avail.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Merry Christmas to all:)

I've been using GBT.com for many years ever since Guitar Port Online went down.(remember them?) This site has been such a huge asset for one to work on their chops. Seems like a natural procession for U.G. Learn the tab, then practice it. Hopefully there won't be a lot of changes to the site.

I love this site, on the other hand I hate UG. Mainly because of their ads. Have you ever tried playing while viewing the chords on your phone, only for them to be obscured from with an annoying popup? Yeah, me too.

I only wish there was a western equivalent to ufret (http://www.ufret.jp/).

Ufret seems to be a cool thing :)

Is it the best tab website in Japan?

Oddgeir,
Just discovered this site about 40 minutes ago, and am really excited by it.

Many thanks for starting the site, keeping it going, and for doing something so helpful and generous.

All the best.

I subscribed a long time ago to Ultimate Guitar.  I see a backing track button for a song. I hit the play button, it turns green and nothing plays.  Disappointed I can't use our site any more.

Long time members of both communities. Do you know if there are plans to integrate GBT within the UG ecosphere? Would be nice to have things like peer reviews and the like applied to our tracks -- as well as metadata, such as key, tunings, etc.

That's AWESOME Eugeny Naidenov;
I have been a member on Ultimate Guitar forever. I have printed literally hundreds of songs just in the last few months alone. I actually forgot about this site and did a search for "Backing Tracks" because it is generally pretty hard to get people to jam with you right now. When I went to sign up, it said that I was already a member. This helps me to try to relearn my timing as well as singing. I think this site is a perfect match to go with Ultimate Guitar!!!!! It's just such a natural fit and a great move on your part Eugeny Naidenov   Maybe both sites will grow song selections that are just going to be so fun to play with. I can't wait!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)

I hope it'll still be free. Been using this site for my backing track needs for a long time now.
I'm also a Pro Ultimate Guitar subscriber, one of those who subscribed when they initially rolled it out for subscription.
These two joining forces would be good I guess.
