Title: Welcome to GuitarBackingTrack
Post by: Webmaster on November 08, 2006, 08:57:26 pm
Hi,

welcome to the GuitarBackingTrack.com forums. Here you can discuss the site, backing tracks, music in general and whatever's on your mind. You can also request backing tracks.

The guitar backing tracks (BTs) on this site is intended for personal use. It's a supplement to guitar players worldwide, turning your bedroom into a full band jam session. While nothing is cooler than being in a band, every guitarist has to practice for themselves as well. With BTs you can play along to popular songs or jam along to cool grooves, without having to rely on band mates. The tracks are basically tunes with their guitars removed, making them perfect to playing along to. All tracks are made by regular guys and girls, and are used with their permission.

The BTs are currently available in MP3 format and can be played with and online player. You'll need the flash plugin for it to work, except on iOS where the builtin Quicktime player is used. Use the menu on top to navigate the bands or search using the search fields in the top right. When viewing a BT, click on the play button to play the track (it should start in a few seconds), the pause button to pause it, and the rewind button to return to the beginning of the song.

Please give me feedback on the site and the BTs, and any suggestions/comments/corrections are welcome.

Hi guys,

thanks for the comments Guitarman. My limited knowledge of Flash and ActionScript is increasing every day, so I hope to have mk II of the player up soon with A-B looping etc.

As for the downloads, I'm working on the script and I think I've got it nailed now. Here's an example link, please test it and give me feedback on download speed and if it works:
*snip*

EDIT: All songs are available in MP3 format now. Just click "Downlaod this track as MP3" below the player when viewing the track of your choice.

Hi Shaunus,

thanks for the feedback! My next project is obviously to make a submission solution for the BTs that works. I'm not sure how to do this at the time, but I'll figure something out eventually. In the meantime, you can attach the BTs to an e-mail and send to webmasterXXXguitarbackingtrack.com (exchange the XXX for @). Or you can use Pando (www.pando.com) or YouSendIt (www.yousendit.com) and send to the same e-mail address. Other alternatives are MegaUpload (www.megaupload.com) and RapidShare (www.rapidshare.com). If you have many tracks you could compress them using zip or rar to make it easier to upload.

All submissions are appreciated! And will help the site grow.

Is this site dead?  I've been coming here a long time and there used to be new tracks daily.  There hasn't been a new one in over a month.  Where'd everybody go?

Nope, the site's not dead. I've just been incredibly busy lately. I'm currently in Australia (I live in Norway) on business through my "real" job. I will update the site again as soon as I have time. It's a one man show, so please bear with me when I don't have time to update...

Hey!

I was just wondering... If I have created a few of my own backing tracks and want to share it with the Guitar Backing Track community, what do I have to do? Can I do that?
Title: Re: Welcome to GuitarBackingTrack
Post by: Webmaster on April 12, 2009, 09:28:50 am
Hi,

of course you can! That's how the site grows and is able to provide more and more backing tracks. There are two ways to submit, you can use the "Submit your tracks" section of the forum (just add a post and attach the files) or send me an e-mail with the tracks at webmaster [at] guitarbackingtrack [dot] com. I'm working on a better solution, but I'm afraid it's not ready yet...

Thanks for your contributions!

Hello Webmaster, fantastic site!  I'm already working on recording guitars to several BT's for upload to my MySpace site where of course I will give 100% recognition to your BT's. That said, how can I contact a vocalist on one of your BT's.  Specifically, Dokken-In My Dreams, but there are others.  Or is this proprietary info?  Thanks bro, again, fantastic site!

Hi,
I have noticed since you have put the new player up that although my guitar is tuned to 440 the tracks are not in the key or it seems out of tune from the way the older version was.  Any suggestions on correcting this on my end?  Love the player, nice to have something to play along with, just need to be in tune with it.

Thanks

Hi CryoByo,

this is probably not related to the new player. You can try to download the tracks and play them from you local drive if you are unsure. Some of the tracks might be somewhat out of tune, but I have not got any other complaints.

Hi,
Great Site! Been A Performing Musician Here In Detroit For Over 25 Years. Just Found Your Page. This Is A Great Format For Players Young And Old To Keep There Chops Up. I Like To Use This Site To " Do My Homework" Learning Songs To Play With The Band. I Have The Acid Program And I Want To Import The Files Into That Program As An mp3. The Download Goes Good But I Cannot Get The Track To Open In Acid. Any Ideas? Again Awesome Site!

Hi, even though I'm a rather long in the tooth player ( the same age as the great  Gary Moore ) I've struggled through registration just to
pass on some words of praise and encouragement to you. If this kind of facility had been around 40 years ago I would probably
have been a better player and in half the time! I'm endlessly impressed by the knowledge and technical ability of todays up and coming Guitarists.
Long may this continue... Just off to put more coal on my steam powered amp! Best Wishes from England.

Thank you Webmaster! I have been looking big and low on the internet and found the backing track to "Blues For Salvador". Great stuff. I will certainly try to upload backing tracks and do my part. Do they have to be my own original arrangements? What format should they be in? Once again, thank you so much for initiating this site. Bravo!

Tony, some folks upload stems from the actual studio sessions , or guitar hero multitracks, some convert midi files or tabs, some play it and record themselves. In the year and change i've been on here, my friend and I have uploaded tracks that fall into each of those categories, there are other methods too. I've seen on youtube, the actual drum tracks, bass tracks, etc, from the studio sessions by big bands like the stones, zepplin, u2, et al. They like versions with and without vocals here, whenever that's possible.

But equing out an instrument fucks with a track's dynamics too much, IMO. Personally, it's the least effective way to do it because tuning out those whole frequency ranges doesn't just remove an instrument , it messes up the sound. That was the method I used when we did Miss Amanda Jones by the Stones and I've never been happy with it. just my 2 cents on that particular method. cheers!

Hola
I'm a 70 year old who's been messing with a guitar for 56 years and like the site except--
I've got an IOS6 Apple phone which cannot accommodate your Google Jamdroid.
The basic problem that I have is that my phone does not down load any of your products!
Is there an App that is compatible to both that will solve this problem?

Hi,
I am new here and very happy. I've just discovered this site. It is a fabulous tool to help play music. Tracks are more than good and more, we have a big choice of tracks, we can download to practice anywhen. No obligation to be two or more to practice correctly now. After, a good jam will be fine. I thank you very mutch!

Hi all, Mike from central Florida here. My band's name is Elkmeat and we are a guitar duo. I must say that these backing tracks are just the component that was missing from our practice regimen, they are really helpful and I'm personally grateful for all the folks out there that take their time to produce them.

Thank you
