Profiles/Favorite Bands/Ratings.
« on: August 07, 2012, 08:29:28 AM »
Gotta couple ideas stewing in my head that I think could make this site even more user friendly. Allow an option to create individual profiles so that we log in and can start adding bands to our "favorites" section. This section can be a banner/widget/something that's always sectioned away at a portion of the site for quick reference, even immediately from the homepage. Either along the top, or on the right side, or bottom, etc.

Ahh, I see now that I've created a profile here to post this idea, the homepage reflects this idea to an extent. Well then, in the spirit of this message, "If you have any ideas for future members features, please let me know," I think you should display the "Log In/Register" on the main page to let people know that it's possible. At present, there's nothing displayed and I didn't think you could log in to the main page. Post a brief caption beneath the "Log In/Register" links to describe the benefits, including bookmarking favorite bands and songs, and hopefully "rating:"

I would think 3 rating options would be good enough. Either Great, Average, or Poor, or 1-3 stars. In my mind, a 3 star rating would describe a track where the guitars were removed from the original, so it's something of an exact copy. I think vocal-less versions could qualify as well, because Karaoke is good fun. Average might be normal submissions that don't really sound authentic, or are lacking key supporting instruments, etc. This might be a good way to quickly identify which of the 5 versions of Megadeth's Holy Wars is best, etc. (And 1-star is for the "why would you submit this?" versions.) This gives the user a little more control than youtube to differentiate "I like it, but it's not the best version" from "I like it; it was perfect," which a simple 2 star or thumbs up/down approach limits you to, as I'd likely have to thumbs-down an imperfect version that I still might like, so as to separate it from what I think is the best version.

Just expanding on the "favorites" thought, maybe for the favorite artists section, we'd have a separate #-A-Z section that are collapsible/expandable. Maybe if I only have bands chosen as my favorites under the letters D, I, and M, those are the only three letters that pop up. This might save space so that the webpage wouldn't need to scroll down forever.

That's all for now. Cheers. Love the site.

Hi Golbez,

thanks for the comprehensive feedback. As you saw I have been working on some of this already, but it is only in a Beta stage as of yet. Unfortunately, I have not had a lot of time to implement new features lately, so it has been in Beta mode for quite some time. I will however one day get time to do this properly and will include all your suggestions then.

Thank you!
